After a lot of hard work by the DB2 developers and a very successful ESP program, IBM formally announced DB2 11 for z/OS today, with a Planned Availability Date of 25th October 2013. You can find the EMEA version of the announcement letter here, and the US version here.
I’ve written a business value overview for every new release of DB2 for z/OS since V8, and DB2 11 is no different. The paper is called “DB2 11: Unmatched Efficiency for Big Data and Analytics” and you can download it from the IBM website here. The DB2 11 paper has also been incorporated into an IBM Flashbook called “DB2 11: The Database for Big Data & Analytics”. IBM will be giving away copies of this Flashbook at the forthcoming IDUG European Conference in Barcelona.
Finally, I got together recently with my good friend and fellow Gold Consultant Klaas Brant to record a 2-part podcast taking a high-level look at some of the neat new features in DB2 11, and you can access part 1 here, and part 2 here.
There will undoubtedly be plenty more information available on DB2 11 over the coming weeks (especially with IDUG Europe so close) but hopefully there’s enough here to keep everyone happy for now.
