An early to start to GSE after an evening in the bar meeting friends old and new, breakfast – to meet some more old acquaintances and then onto business.
Standing room only at the 1st keynote of the week. An introduction from Mark Wilson of Vertali was followed by Greg Lotko and Stuart McIrvine from BMC, who talked about all things hybrid. Paul Hopson then joined them from HSBC to discuss resilience, a subject which is very high on everyone’s agenda at the moment.
Then off to see John Campbell of Triton for part 2 of his Db2 War Stories which was very well attended and of great interest to the younger members of the audience as I found out in the bar later.
John was back on again immediately after to talk about Db2 Bufferpools which also went down very well.
I then went to see Anthony Ciabattoni of IBM with ‘Exploiting Db2 DDF without fears or revelations’, a good session with some excellent information on Thread Pooling and High Performance DBATs which are a particular favourite of mine.
Another notable session was Andrew McCandless talking about the work he & I do with the Mainframerz Meetup, a voluntary community that works together to spread the good news about z/OS mainframes and the new and exciting things which are happening.
Looking forward to another excellent day at GSE UK today.
