IBM Comes Top Of The Tree in The Forrester Report
In a recent Forrester Report, ‘The Forrester Wave™: Enterprise Hadoop Solutions Q1 2012’, IBM has received praise for its Hadoop solutions within strong enterprise data warehousing portfolios.
Hadoop is the emerging open source, cloud-oriented approach which originated in the mid-2000s via technologies from Yahoo, Google and other Web 2.0 pioneers. The cost, proprietary nature, inflexibility and scalability issues of some massively parallel processing (MPP) enterprise data warehouses (EDWs) has made the advent of Hadoop central to the big strategies of enterprises, service providers and other organisations. Many EDW vendors including IBM are now evolving their services to support Hadoop.
As an established EDW vendor, IBM has its own Hadoop distribution network. The Forrester Report found it has an extensive professional services force working on Hadoop projects; extensive R&D programs developing Hadoop technologies; a considerable number of Hadoop solutions and services customers, plus software, appliance and cloud offerings. Within the Report, IBM was classed as ‘Strong’, the highest rating, in both the categories of ‘Strategy’ and ‘Market Presence’, scoring 5 out of 5. IBM’s rating in ‘Current Offering’ also scored a high 4.62 out of 5.
