IDUG EMEA Edinburgh – Day 4

The last day of IDUG EMEA was yet another good one, with an 08:30 start to moderate Anthony Ciabatonni’s session on ‘Db2 SWAT Team Perspective on Db2 13 Features that Maximise Continuous Availability’. As well as being a contender for the longest title at IDUG, it was certainly one that caught my attention, with one of the topics being an eye-opener on how Db2 13 can help Db2 survive a ransomware attack.

Anthony also covered additional Db2 System Monitor Profile table support, which is growing in importance for system and application management and a feature that demands increased attention from all Db2 for z/OS users.

It was such a busy conference that the Triton quartet, including Damir, Iqbal and Rob, were unable to get together as a group for more than a few seconds. That might seem disappointing, but it shows how important IDUG is, as much for the networking as for the technical sessions. The number of times we got asked why Jules, James, Paul and Mark weren’t there is an indication of Triton’s status as a Db2 and DevOps consultancy.

The biggest disappointment was that, with seven concurrent streams, no one could attend all the sessions they were interested in. With any luck, there will be time to listen to the recorded sessions once they are available.

The best thing about IDUG? Meeting old friends and making new ones. That and Damir discovering the delights of haggis.

Thanks to the IDUG board and volunteers for arranging such a successful conference, including our very own Iqbal as IDUG President.
